A Bourbon With Braille On The Label Aims To Support Visually Impaired Cincinnatians

In a rather unique partnership that aims to raise funds to help support those suffering from vision loss, the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) has teamed up with Northside Distilling, Downtown Cincinnati’s 1st distillery since Prohibition, to release a bourbon with braille on the label.

What’s been called Braille Bourbon Whiskey, according to those behind it, is a hand selected, 108 proof single barrel bourbon with braille on the label. Pricing at around $65 per 750 ml bottle, it is said by CABVI that “a portion of the proceeds will be donated back to CABVI to help individuals adapt to vision loss.”

The bourbon will first be released at the distillery the evening of September 28th, with further availability via online purchase starting the following day for pick up at Northside.

“We are proud to partner with the Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired and support their mission of empowering people who are blind or visually impaired with opportunities to seek independence while bringing heightened awareness related to issues of accessibility,” said Northside Distilling in a statement on social media.

Not much has been said of the characteristics of the bourbon itself, but information from the distillery about its flagship bourbon offering indicates that bottling clocks in at 90 proof; has a “rich, caramel aroma and a hint of vanilla”; is crafted with a low rye mash bill; filtered using a zero-chill process; and hand selected after five years of aging.
