Our First Bottle Club Pick: Doc Swinson’s Alter Ego Triple Cask Bourbon

For over 9 years here at The Whiskey Wash we’ve strived to inform and educate you on the best the whiskey world has to offer. Now, in an extension of that philosophy, we’ve launched a new bottle of the month club in partnership with Spirits Network.

In the new The Whiskey Wash Bottle of The Month Club we will look beyond the regular roster of whiskeys you see at your typical liquor retailer, instead curating a collection of more unique expressions you may, or may not, have heard of.

Bottle Pick: Doc Swinson’s Alter Ego Triple Cask Bourbon

For our first bottle pick we look to Washington State and an up and coming whiskey blender known as Doc Swinson’s. What started as a passion project among friends back in 2017, led by a head blender with no formal training, has turned into an amazing example of the ingenuity seen in the craft blending world today.

The bottle we’re highlighting from Doc Swinson’s is their Alter Ego Triple Cask Bourbon. What you’ve got here is a bourbon, blended in-house from two sourced mash bills (#1 – aged a minimum of five years, 60% corn/36% rye/4% malted barley; #2 – aged a minimum of five years, 75% corn/21% rye/4% malted barley), that’s been finished in three types of casks which formerly held Oloroso Sherry, Pedro Ximenez Sherry and Cognac, respectively.

A trick in the world of blending, at least if the blender really knows their stuff, is to get the right balance in flavors, particularly when you’re integrating multiple mash bills with different types of casks. This, in the case of Doc Swinson’s master blender Jesse Parker, is where this brand really shines.

How The Bottle of The Month Club Works

In terms of how our new Club works, every month we will pick a rare or hard to find bottle and release it for sale, through our partnership with Spirits Network, around the beginning of each month. Prices will vary from $50-75, but it could be more if there is something extra special that we deem worth releasing.

The amount of bottles available will vary based on the release, but it will always be a limited number so it’s important to opt in to the club. By opting in to the club over at Spirits Network you will be notified of each month’s release via email. Each bottle will be accompanied by a custom video telling the story behind the bottle and brand.

Note that there are no monthly commitments to joining this club, just the opportunity to have an avenue to learn about, and enjoy at home yourself, some rather unique curated whiskeys.

In keeping as well with transparency, a percentage of each bottle sale comes back to The Whiskey Wash, helping to support, but not influence, our editorial and other costs. The picks made here are done by us, and not at the suggestions of the brands we choose.
