Reviewers are a core part of our editorial and organizational mission, and we’re always looking for new contributors to join us. Successful reviewers:Are sharp, talented writers with a lively and distinctive voiceHave experience creating content for the web Are undaunted by receiving editorial feedbackPossess some experience with sensory evaluation Understand the basics of distillation and whiskey productionAre familiar with the current state of the whiskey industryKnow their way around a digital camera, or can take iPhone pictures that don’t suckHave the ability to deliver work on deadlineLive in or near Portland, OregonLove whiskey!Whiskey and spirits knowledge is important, but writing skill is the most critical attribute of a great reviewer. Spirits knowledge can be learned much more easily than a confident and lively writing voice!As a reviewer, you’d be responsible for writing one 400-word review each week. Every review needs to include the following components:An introduction contextualizing the whiskey, including a short profile of the distillery and any notable aspects of its production. Full tasting notes, including a description of the whiskey’s appearance, aroma, and palateA score (we use a 1-5 star scale)An image of the whiskey you reviewedThe position is not monetarily compensated, but you get to keep every whiskey you review (samples range anywhere from $15 to $200+ in value). In addition, you’ll be invited to quarterly happy hours and educational events, and you’ll have a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and network in the spirits world. We’re also in a serious growth phase right now, so there may be additional opportunities to contribute down the road.
