The 2016 Bourbon Classic: What to Know If You Are Going

The 2016 Bourbon Classic will be taking place in Louisville, Kentucky, on February 26th and 27th. This event is basically the Superbowl of Bourbon. While tickets to the kickoff event – the Top Shelf Pappy Dinner at Copper and Kings- sold out almost immediately, you still have plenty of time to plan a trip to Louisville to enjoy the Classic. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Friday night (February 26th) is the Cocktail Competition, named one of the seven best in the country by Travel + Leisure Magazine. Teams from Louisville restaurants make an original cocktail with small plate pairing, and guests are able to go from table to table sampling each offering while the judging is taking place.
  • Saturday (February 27th) starts with educational sessions about various bourbon-related topics. In the past, topics have included bourbon and country ham pairings, bourbon and chocolate, speaker panels, and a dusty appraisal event. After the first session will be the Bourbon Master panel, where Master Distillers and Distillery Presidents discuss the history of the industry and where it’s heading. After one more educational session, guests are given a Glencarin glass and set loose in the main hall. Distilleries have tables set up with a variety of their offerings for tastings. This is a great time to drink bourbon and mingle with other bourbon lovers from all over the world.
  • A VIP ticket package for both days of the event is $375. The reserved rooms at 21C have already been spoken for, but there are plenty of nearby lodging accommodations. The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts is within walking distance of The Galt House and 21C.

We’ll be there, and we hope to see you there too. Stay tuned to The Whiskey Wash as we cover this event on social media later this month. Follow us on Twitter @WhiskeyWash!
