Kilchoman 2008 Vintage Distillery’s First Ever 7 Year Whisky

Kilchoman Vintage 2008Patience in the whiskey making business, particularly when you are a younger distillery, is key to the success or failure of a new bottling. For Islay’s Kilchoman, this means believing in the hope the very recent release of its first seven year old Scotch, the 2008 Vintage, will be a winner among fans of its brand.

Kilchoman, which said this whisky is already sold out at its gift shop, is pushing a limited amount of this spirit to liquor retailers globally. It is described as “a vatting of fresh ex Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels filled in July 2008” which was bottled just last month at at a strength of 46% ABV, or 92 proof.

This latest release, according to the distillery, “is a continuation of our by-annually released Vintage range, having previously bottled 2006 and 2007 Vintages in 2011 and 2013.” Official tasting notes for the Kilchoman 2008 Vintage are below and, as for price, expect to pay at least £56 (around $87 USD) when you find a bottle for sale.

  • Nose:  Lemon, citrus and butterscotch notes are prominent with soft peaty aromas in the background.
  • Palate:  Soft sweetness first with peat smoke and ripe fruit notes following.
  • Finish:  Long, clean and sweet with peat smoke and soft fruits at the end.
