The Dalmore Affinity A 50 Year Old Wonder Whisky

[UPDATE: I’ve learned the price on this whisky will be £49,500, or around $77,300 USD!]

Oh Dalmore, how you do tempt me to refinance my home in order to buy some of the uber-high end Scotch you put out now and again. Unlike the more bargain priced Distillery Exclusive 2015 we wrote about the other day, the just unveiled The Dalmore Affinity whisky is a stunner of a 50 year old expression created for a very special birthday.

The distillery, in revealing Affinity, said the whisky was crafted by its master distiller Richard Paterson and his team in celebration of Singapore’s 50th year of independence. It is a one off bottling, which in this case means there is literally only one bottle of it, which will be on display at RWS Hotel Michael in Singapore from late July.

The Dalmore Affinity

Affinity was, according to The Dalmore, “matured in American white oak bourbon casks for 48 years before being finessed in exclusive Apostoles 30 year old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts from the Gonzalez Byass bodega in Spain for a further 2 years and 6 months.” What this amounts to in terms of flavor profile is something which includes hints of “caramel, cherry and chocolate ganache.”

This whisky had no price mentioned, but I would guess it is somewhere well north of its slightly younger 45 year old sibling. It comes in a special crystal decanter “complete with a solid silver stag created by Hamilton & Inches, and is enclosed in a wooden case which has been hand-crafted by the expert craftsmen at LINLEY.”

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
