Cù Bòcan Virgin Oak Edition Debuts From Tomatin In Scotland

The Tomatin distillery out of Scotland recently unveiled a new lightly peated, limited edition whisky that continues the expansion of its Cù Bòcan line up. The new Cù Bòcan Virgin Oak Edition follows on the heels of another limited bottling, known as the Sherry Edition, which was released late last year.

The Cù Bòcan Virgin Oak Edition, pricing around £50 ($75 USD), is the second in a trilogy of one barrel type specific bottlings tied to the cask mix used for the standard edition of Cù Bòcan. Besides virgin oak and sherry, there’s also ex-bourbon cask influences (a limited edition bottling tied to this barrel type will debut later this year).

Plans call for around 6,000 bottles to be part of this release, which unfortunately doesn’t look as if it will be distributed in the USA. Official tasting notes from Tomatin for this 46% ABV whisky are below.

Nose – Lively citrus fruits – lime juice and lemon sorbet. Oak driven flavours of vanilla, coconut and candy floss soon emerge with rosewater, red berries, fresh pear and pineapple in the background.

Mouth – Warm pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Baked apples with cinnamon and toffee and just a touch of smoke.

Finish – Clean and zingy with pleasant spice.
