New York Farm Distillery Unveils Single Malt Aged In Applejack Barrels

Harvest Spirits, a small New York farm distillery set on a 200 acre apple orchard, has been known up to this point by its fans as a provider of fruit distillation style liquors such as brandy. It also has quietly been aging whiskey, however, and recently released its first roughly two year old American style single malt.

The new Harvest Spirits John Henry Single Malt Whiskey, according to the Hudson River Valley Wines blog, was made from a mash bill drawn from, for the most part, local, two row malted barley that’s been smoked. It spent the better part of its aging time in, among other barrels, former Harvest Applejack casks before being bottled at 42% ABV.

There’s not much in the way of tasting notes available online right now, but the whiskey is already available for nationwide delivery at a price point of around $60 for a 750 ml bottle. The release of John Henry continues a trend in New York of being one of the leading states in craft whiskey development.
