New Swift Single Malt Out Of Texas Finished In Oloroso Sherry Casks

swift-singlemaltOne state in which quality whiskey from craft distilleries is becoming more and more common place is Texas. The likes of Balcones, Ranger Creek and others are typical of the culture there, innovating great spirits the Lone Star way. Now one of the latest to join them from the town of Dripping Springs is Swift Distillery and its just launched single malt.

The Swift Single Malt, according to Austin Way, was created by a couple that were “inspired by European travels and their shared love of fine spirits.” What’s resulted from this innovation is a young single malt reportedly at least 13 months in age that was twice distilled on hand-hammered, copper pot stills from 100% Scottish malted barley. It was laid down for a time in ex-Kentucky bourbon barrels before being finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Spain.

This new, non-chill filtered whiskey looks to be pricing for around $55 and was bottled at 43% ABV.  Tasting notes from the distillery suggest a “smooth, buttery whiskey with notes of toasted vanilla and chocolate laced with hints of rose and ripe peaches.” It has pretty limited distribution in Texas right now.
