Jack Daniel’s Offers Temptation In The Form Of An Aged Rye

6a00e553b3da20883401a3fced2b18970bThe resurgence of rye whiskey in modern times is being helped along in part by the entry of larger distilleries into a space dominated by craft distiller offerings. Jack Daniel’s is one looking to cash in on this trend with the recent launch of its Rested Tennessee Rye expression.

Pricing for around $50 per 750 ml bottle, Jack Daniel’s Rested Tennessee Rye is a follow up to the distillery’s release in 2012 of an unaged whiskey. This “rested” bottling is said to be a one time release that’s been bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume after being matured “two cycles of the Tennessee seasons” in new white oak.

The distillery said this rye was “crafted using the same Cave Spring water from the Jack Daniel’s Hollow, proprietary yeast and charcoal mellowing process that’s been used in the distillery’s nearly 150-year-old Tennessee Whiskey recipe.” The similarities end there however, as the recipe for this release consists of 70 percent rye, 18 percent corn and 12 percent malted barley.

Tasting notes from Jack Daniel’s indicate “delicate notes of vanilla and caramel on entry giving way to complex notes of fruit and rye spice.”
