Kilchoman Distillery Unveils 2014 Edition Of Loch Gorm Scotch

Loch_Gorm_2014The Kilchoman distillery, as I talked about at the time of its vintage 2007 release, is known for being the latest of its kind to be built on the Scottish island of Islay. A younger age, however, hasn’t prevented this farm distillery from releasing some strong Scotch, and now it has just announced its 2014 Loch Gorm whisky.

The new Loch Gorm is a full ex-sherry cask matured release that was filled into fresh Oloroso sherry butts in 2009 and bottled just this year. It is the second release under this name, with each offering being differentiated by the distillation and bottling dates on the front of the bottle and carton.

Available in the first week of April in limited numbers, it draws its name from a famously peaty loch that sits in front of the distillery. Tasting notes from Kilchoman are provided below for your consideration.

Nose: mixed preserved fruit, particularly lemon and rich peat smoke
Palate: dry cereal flavour develops in honey and biscuit with lingering peat
Finish: richly sweet and smoky
