Alltech's Town Branch Distillery Branching Out Into Rye Whiskey

town-branch-rye_v2Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company sits in the heart of Kentucky, otherwise known to you and me as bourbon country. The spirits enterprise, besides producing some various craft beers, is also obviously into whiskey given its location. Already known for Town Branch Bourbon, it is now branching out into rye, which isn’t something you hear of all that much in the Bluegrass State.

Alltech said its Town Branch Distillery division of the Lexington operation has unveiled the first of its new Town Branch Rye, marking the fourth hard liquor created by them. It reflects a recognition by the distillers there that, while bourbon is still the primary economic workhorse, rye is up and coming as drinkers tap its potential both as a sipping whiskey and in cocktails.

Town Branch Rye is described as having a spicy, formal aroma that opens into light spicy rye notes of vanilla and oak, finishing with a peppery warm dry finish. It was made from a mash of fermented rye grain, barley and corn and distilled in dual copper pot stills. Bottled at 100 proof, it is said to have been aged for around four years and will price around $50 a bottle.

Plans call for this new rye to initially be distributed across Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
