Gold Bar Gold Finished Whiskey Is A New…Really? REALLY?

It is gold filtered whiskey, squeezed between the butt cheeks of a unicorn. No, really, it is whiskey filtered through gold – the latter part I just made up to highlight the kookiness of this new domestic whiskey, known as Gold Bar Gold Finished Whiskey, which is set apparently to debut later this month.

Gold Bar Gold Finished Whiskey is a sourced product with one very slick marketing drive behind it. It is a blend of American whiskies drawn from Kentucky and Indiana distilleries, according to information from this retailer pre-selling it for around $60 a bottle, that “follows the same cross-country journey made by fortune seekers of the last 175 years to the Golden State of California.” Once there it is then passed through a “filter made of 24-karat flakes” before being bottled at 80 proof.

Now, how does passing this whiskey through a gold flaked filter impact the flavor quality? A very good question, much in the same way I wonder how a whiskey we wrote about last year which is “body blended” by porn stars ends up tasting different from regular old stuff you get off the shelf of your corner liquor store.

On second thought, maybe I don’t want to know.

Looking beyond the gold booze, the packaging of this whiskey is something slick as well. Each individually numbered bottle is presented in a box designed to look like a shiny gold bar. Also, a special “Lady of Fortune” coin made from bronze – which is a replica of some hand-sculpted, 24-karat gold coins created for this project – is pressed into the front of each glass bottle. Both the bronze and gold coins, “inspired by the world’s most renowned heroines of victory,” were made at what’s described as America’s oldest operating private mint.

Luckily there’s enough non-hypable information on the Gold Bar whiskey website for me to give you some real technical details on it, including tasting notes. It is suggested by those behind this that you can enjoy the whiskey “neat, on the rocks” or in a cocktail. Just don’t enjoy it out of the backside of a unicorn – thanks.
