Kentucky Peerless Distilling $1,000 Bourbon Coming Soon

Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company in Louisville, Kentucky, announced last week the roll out of the Series 1 program, known more commonly as the Kentucky Peerless Distilling $1,000 Bourbon. The latter is a bit of a misnomer- it’s $1,000 to buy into a five-year program that affords participants the opportunity to taste the aging process of Kentucky Peerless Bourbon before it officially hits the shelves.  There are 300 spots available for this program currently, and more may be added if demand is high enough.

The Whiskey Wash recently caught up with proprietors Corky and Carson Taylor to learn more about this program:

The Whiskey Wash (TWW): Clearly people are clamoring for a non-moonshine whiskey offering from Kentucky Peerless.  Is that the main reason for this offering?

Corky Taylor: Bourbon has been part of our family since the 1800’s. When we decided to re-open the distillery, it was extremely important to us that we made our own product using the highest quality ingredients just like my great-grandfather, Henry Kraver, did when he started Kentucky Peerless. To craft a high quality bourbon, you must have patience to allow it to fully mature during the aging process.

We created SERIES I to engage our customers now and give them an opportunity to be a part of this journey. This is the first time that Peerless will be in a bottle in 98 years. This unique collector’s piece shows the progression from new make to a five-year-old bourbon, and illustrates the revival of our family legacy from the 19th to the 21st century.

TWW: Do I have to come to the distillery to pick it up or will you ship it to me?

Carson Taylor: Federal law does not allow a Distillery to ship alcohol to an individual. Your collection will be stored at Kentucky Peerless until you or someone you designate can pick it up in person.

TWW: What kind of reaction have you had to this offering so far?  How many are left?

Corky Taylor: The reaction has been extremely positive. People are excited to participate in such a rare opportunity. It is not often that you can join a brand in its beginning phase and watch it develop over the years. We are making the entire experience very personal and unique to all those who participate.

There are only 300 SERIES I collections available and we have sold over 1/3 of them so far. For bourbon enthusiasts and those who love the story of Kentucky Peerless, the SERIES has been generously received.

TWW: How long until your first batch of rye is ready? Bourbon?  Any plans for other whiskeys down the road?

Carson Taylor: Kentucky Peerless rye will be ready in March, 2017 as a two-year-old straight rye. In March 2019, we will release a Kentucky Peerless bourbon that is a four-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon. We also have plans for a Henry Kraver bourbon, which will be a limited edition aged spirit in honor of the man who started it all.
