Yellowstone Select Bourbon Continues Brand Revitalization

Kentucky’s Limestone Branch distillery, working alongside spirits company Luxco, is aiming to continue the move up the bourbon shelf for the historic Yellowstone Bourbon brand. It first began the climb from bottom-dweller earlier this year, when it released the Yellowstone Limited Edition Bourbon, which we actually enjoyed when we reviewed it. Now word is on the street of a new bottling being unveiled that’s called Yellowstone Select.

Yellowstone Select, according to Limestone/Luxco, is a blend of high-rye four and seven year old Kentucky bourbons that are drawn from “hand-selected” barrels chosen by distiller Steve Beam of Limestone. It has been bottled at 93 proof and will be housed inside a special commemorative tube, pricing for around $50.

“Yellowstone Select uses some of the finest hand-selected barrels available to create a well-rounded bourbon –  a spicy rye taste at first rounding out with caramel notes and a rich, brown sugar finish that highlights Kentucky tradition,” said Beam in a statement. “In 2010, my family and I founded Limestone Branch Distillery with the intention of crafting only the finest whiskey and the dream of restoring the Yellowstone brand to its former glory.”

Official tasting notes for this bourbon are below. It should also be noted Limestone is planning next year for a Yellowstone Barrel Selection Program. In this “unique experience,” “participants [will be allowed] to choose their own mash bill, barrel size, barrel char level and aging level, as well as allowing them to choose their level of involvement in the process. Participants will be able to select their personalized bourbon and visit the distillery to fill the barrel and bottle the product.”

Nose: Leather and dried fruit with a slight hint of citrus and smoky oak.

Taste: Spicy rye with soft leathered cherries fading to smoked caramel

Finish: A memorable finish, rich with brown sugar and Kentucky tradition
