While not quite as fancy as the 60 year old Tullibardine Scotch whisky we wrote about yesterday, a new 36 year old expression from Tomatin that’s just been released is certainly no slouch either. It is a limited edition release, of course, but will be made available yearly by the distillery.
The Tomatin 36 Year Old, bottled at 46% ABV, was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. 800 bottles are in batch one, with each being individually numbered and coming packaged in a special wooden box that also contains a certificate of authenticity.
“We are in a unique position to be able to offer a product of this age on an ongoing basis,” said Stephen Bremner, sales director at Tomatin, in a statement. “Following the withdrawal of our renowned 30 year old expression, we expect this new 36 year old to be a welcome addition for stockists and indeed drinkers of Tomatin single malt.”
Distillery tasting notes for this whisky, which is non-chill filtered and of natural color, are below. It prices for around £500, or $780 USD.
- Aroma: Pear drops, ginger snaps, butterscotch, vanilla ice cream, sherry notes, milk chocolate.
- Palate: Woody and malty, less sweet than the nose, cloves and cardamom.
- Finish: Elegantly smooth and creamy with just a hint of spice.
