Big Bottom Releases Blended Whiskey Finished In Port Casks

bottom-barlowportBig Bottom Whiskey, now known as Big Bottom Distilling, has made a name for itself in the innovative ways it handles whiskey it purchases from other distilleries. We recently had the chance to visit them onsite to see how operations are done, and during this visit got to sample their Barlow Trail Port Cask Finish bottling, which had just been released to market. Here are some more details on this expression now for your consideration.

The new Barlow Trail Port Cask Finish builds upon the more base Barlow Trail Big Bottom produces, which is described as “a proprietary blend of three whiskeys.” From there this blend is then finished in tawny port casks for six months before being bottled at 91 proof and sold for around $38 each.

Tasting notes from Big Bottom indicate this whiskey “offers a sweet berry and citrus nose. On the palate, it showcases a fresh, ripe berry followed by a hint of peppery spice that gives way to a smooth, rich and malty quality from the American Oak port casks.” It has already been named a top whiskey in a recent spirits competition, joining other award winning cask finished expressions from this distillery.
