Rye Grown In New York State At Heart Of New New York Rye Whiskey

westchester-ryeStilltheOne Distillery continues to be another one in the growing number of craft whiskey operations out of New York State. First known for making spirits from honey, this distillery not too long ago expanded into whiskey made from locally sourced grains. They recently unveiled their latest bottling of this spirit type, a New York rye called No. 4 Westchester Rye Whiskey.

The new StilltheOne No. 4 Westchester Rye Whiskey, currently pricing around $37 if you buy it online, is made from New York State rye grown for the distillery. It is described as having a lot of rye in its mash bill that’s distilled down and then aged for a period of time in charred new oak barrels.

No. 4 Westchester Rye is bottled at 90 proof, and because of the high rye content may be for some more spicy then other young ryes they’ve had before. Tasting notes from the distillery indicate the nose to be lightly floral with some spice. The taste after sipping “starts with sweet vanilla and caramel notes, transitions to cinnamon and floral rye flavors and gives a long spicy, but not overwhelming, rye finish.” Sounds yummy!
