Teeling Brings Its Take On Irish Single Grain Whisky To American Drinkers

The Teeling Whiskey Company out of Ireland continues to aim for being a driving force in the resurgent popularity of Irish whisky. It has made some interesting unveilings in the last year, ranging from a single malt expression that’s part of its core range to some more exotic and rare bottlings upwards of 30 years of age. It also has out on the market a single grain whisky that it is set to now bring to American drinkers as well.

The Teeling Single Grain Whiskey is but one of a handful of single grain expressions in the world, being made through the use of “unique ingredients, with maize/corn dominating,” before being distilled on modern column technology. There is no specific age statement attached to it, but what is known is that it was fully matured for an unknown time in California red wine barrels. It is particularly noted by Teeling for having recently been awarded World’s Best Grain Whiskey at the World Whiskies Awards for 2014.

This whiskey, pricing at around $50, was bottled at 46% ABV. Official tasting notes for it are below courtesy of Teeling.

Nose: Spice and fruit notes mingle with an underlying sweet nose.

Taste: Strong spice at the start developing into lush red berries and grapes, with drying tannin effect at the end.

Finish: Dry finish dominated by wood and spice.
