BenRiach Debuts New Classic 35 Years Old Speyside Style Single Malt Scotch

benriach-35The BenRiach distillery out of Scotland’s Speyside region, founded in 1898, did not have a long production history out of the gate, closing only two years later in 1900 following troubles in the whisky industry. It didn’t reopen again until 1965, changing hands several times since then before eventually becoming independent once again. It thus has some old stock sitting around in barrels aging, allowing for the recent release of a new 35 year old single malt.

The BenRiach 35 Years Old, according to the distillery, is designed to compliment its award-winning 25 years old which came out in 2006. This newer release is non-chill filtered and of natural color, having been bottled at a drinkable 42.5% ABV. It is described as being a classic Speyside style Scotch, which you can get more of a hint of below courtesy of tasting notes from BenRiach.

As for pricing and availability, it currently looks to be going for at least $650 in most overseas retailers.

Nose: Luscious tropical fruit salad syrup with a delicate ripped mint and chocolate back note; all warmed by a gentle toasted oak spice.

Color: Gleaming rich golden amber.

Taste: A classic Speyside style combining waves of papaya and dried apricots with freshly-sawn oak spices, touches of golden syrup and distant milk chocolate which gently flow through the elegant long finish.
