New Zealand Whisky Hits 25 Year Old Mark In New Release

When one thinks of single malt whisky aged for at least a quarter of a century, Japan and Scotland jump to mind as locations where this rare spirit can be found. Now New Zealand has apparently joined this exclusive club, as the New Zealand Whisky Company recently released a few hundred bottles of a locally aged 25-year-old expression.

Those behind this release said it is made from 100 percent malted New Zealand barley distilled in the lost Dunedin distillery that has been aging in American oak ex-bourbon barrels from Four Roses. It was bottled at 46% ABV, and the packaging it comes in “was selected and decided through an international design competition which was won by Greg Walko and Petra Kosik, who hail from a small design studio in Hungry.”

Nose Mature nose with subtle campfire smoke, dried fruit.
