Toast The Coming Fall Hello With Sons of Liberty’s Pumpkin Spice Whiskey

Here’s the thing about flavored whiskey – you either love it or you hate it. There’s little to no middle ground on this point I think. This being said, there must be some people who really love the new 2014 version of a pumpkin spice flavored whiskey from a Rhode Island distillery, as it was recently awarded a very prestigious title.

Sons of Liberty Spirits, known for its American single malt expressions, took home from Whisky Magazine’s 2014 World Whiskies Awards in London the honor of “World’s Best Flavored Whiskey” for its 2014 Pumpkin Spice Flavored Whiskey. This small operation in the smallest state of the Union noted as well it was the first U.S. craft distillery to take home a “World’s Best” from these particular awards.

What goes into a pumpkin spiced whiskey you might wonder? Well, for starts, lots and lots of pumpkins. The 2014 release, said the distillery, made use of

30,000 lbs of Rhode Island grown pumpkins from Carpenter’s Farm; a substantial increase from 4,000 lbs in 2013. The Sons of Liberty, along with many loyal volunteers recruited from Facebook cut, cored, roasted and pressed the load of pumpkins in pursuit of hundreds of gallons of fresh pumpkin juice to be blended with an American Single Malt Whiskey.

Capturing what’s described as “the essence of fall in New England,” and noting that fall is literally just a few days away, this whiskey’s flavor profile reportedly exudes “a true pumpkin flavor lacking the sugary, saccharin taste common to flavored spirits” and “masterfully complements the roasted, native harvest with traditional autumn spices – clove, allspice, vanilla, cinnamon and sweet orange.”

Should you be wanting to drink some of this pumpkin whiskey, it is available for sale in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
